T2 terrace soils of Kelantan are derived from alluvial materials of Holocene age. Six soil series, namely Nangka (sandy variant), Nangka, Kg Pusu, Lunas, Bt Tuku and Kerayong Series were studied to characterize the soils. Chemically, the soils are deficient in bases, nitrogen and phosphorus, but high in aluminium. The clay fraction is dominated by kaolinite, gibbsite and goethite. Physico-chemically, the soils are in the intermediate stage of weathering and can be expected to respond well to liming and fertilization, which should include additions of organic matter.
