29 brands of pencils and 5 sets of coloured pencils were analyzed for lead and chromium content. Tests showed that high levels of lead (> 1000 ppm) and chromium (> 100 ppm) could be extracted using dilute hydrochloric acid (0AM) at body temperature for two brands of pencils from Japan.
