This paper reports a simple technique to evaluate the physical quality of some tropical woods. The gamma ray attenuation coeffidents of five wood spedes were measured and the results show that there is a linear relations hip between the attenuation coefficient and density of woods. This study could be used to demonstrate a simple non-destructive evaluation (NDE) of wood quality based on physical characteristics.
